Classification of commonly used cemented carbides

The commonly used cemented carbides are classified into the following three categories according to whether they participate in other carbides or not.

(1) Tungsten-cobalt (WC+Co) cemented carbide (YG) "As long as pig iron is processed" is composed of WC and Co. It has high flexural strength, toughness and good thermal conductivity, but poor heat resistance and wear resistance. It is used to process Cast Iron and non-ferrous metals. Fine-grained YG cemented carbides (such as YG3X, YG6X) have higher hardness and wear resistance than YG3 and YG6, and slightly worse strength and toughness. They are suitable for processing hard cast iron, austenitic stainless steel, heat-resistant alloy, hard bronze and so on.

(2) Tungsten-Titanium-Cobalt (WC+TiC+Co) Cemented Carbide (YT), "Tension Processing Cooked Iron" because TiC hardness and melting point are higher than WC, so compared with YG, its hardness, wear resistance, red hardness increase, bonding temperature is higher, anti-oxidation ability is stronger, and at high temperature will generate titanium dioxide, which can eliminate bonding. But its thermal conductivity is poor and bending strength is low, so it can be used to process tough materials such as steel.

(3) Tungsten, Titanium, TaC and Cobalt (WC+TiC+TaC+Co)) Cemented Carbide (YW YS), "Hard-to-work Materials for Tension Processing of Heat-resistant Steel, High Manganese Steel, Stainless Steel, etc."

The basic addition of TaC (NbC) to YT cemented carbide improves bending strength, impact toughness, high temperature hardness, oxygen resistance and wear resistance. It can process not only steel, but also cast iron and non-ferrous metals. Therefore, it is often called universal cemented carbide.
